One suburban Emmy winner: 'Modern Family' director

Among the nominees at the Emmy Awards were a number of actors, directors and writers with connections to the suburbs.

Of the suburban nominees for television's most prestigious awards, one won:

• Gail Mancuso, of Melrose Park and River Forest, won for directing for a comedy series ("Modern Family").

The other nominees were:

• Melissa McCarthy, Plainfield: Best actress in a comedy series ("Mike & Molly") and guest actress in a comedy series ("Saturday Night Live")

• Gary Cole, Rolling Meadows: Guest actor in a comedy series ("Veep")

• Anna Chlumsky, Broadview: Best supporting actress in a comedy series ("Veep")

• Bob Newhart, Oak Park: Guest actor in a comedy series ("The Big Bang Theory")

• D.B. Weiss, Highland Park: Writing for a drama series ("Game of Thrones")

• Joan Cusack, Evanston: Guest actress in a comedy series ("Shameless")

• Jane Lynch, Dolton: Best reality host ("Hollywood Game Night") and best narrator ("Penguins: Waddle All the Way")

• Joe Mantello, Rockford: Supporting actor in a miniseries or movie ("The Normal Heart")

• Paris Barclay, Chicago Heights: Directing for a comedy series ("Glee")
