Hamilton's words are welcome commentary

Thank you, Daily Herald, for carrying the "Guest View" of Lee Hamilton. Hamilton, a former congressman from Indiana's 9th District, is the director of the Center on Congress at Indiana University. When I ran for Congress in 1965 in Indiana's 2nd District as a Democrat, Mr. Hamilton was running for Congress in the 9th as a Republican. He won. I didn't. And he served through 1999.

Now, as the director of the center, he carries out its purpose with great skill. "At the Center on Congress, we believe that learning about Congress is central to learning about responsible citizenship," its website states.

I thank you for printing his column. He is remarkable in that he brings a well-thought-out, balanced point of view on what is happening in Congress on a daily basis. He understands the divisiveness and offers constructive options for moving ahead, and he does not blast either party. He is objective, understands the issues, and gives positive suggestions.

You may read more about him by searching online for "Center on Congress."
