Night life: Scorched Earth tap room now open

Scorched Earth Brewing Co. in Algonquin recently opened its tap room under owners Mike and Jennifer Dallas. Scorched Earth now offers four beers: Public Servant Rye Pale Ale, Rugged Coalminer Robust Porter, French Merchant Saison and Guildmeister German Kolsch. Beer is available in pints, flights, growlers and howlers. Play a game of shuffleboard and order in a pizza or other food from your favorite restaurant. Hours are 4 to 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday and noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday.

Hopvine dinner

Join Hopvine Brewing Company's beer maker's dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24. Pairings include Urban Tumbleweed, Ukranium Krusher, Saison Sombre, Pine Randalled Golden Saison, Aurora Amber and IBA. Eats include deviled quail egg and lox; black walnut, cherry gelee soup; a rabbit confit salad with watercress, pickled cranberries, roasted squash and sunflower seeds; a walleye and polenta chive souffle; venison Wellington and sweet corn ice cream. $65 per person.

Paint and sip

Drink creatively at Durty Nellie's Paint Nite starting at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25. Monday night drink specials include $3 craft beers, $5 Red Bull bombs and half-priced select bottles of wine. An instructor guides you through creating a unique piece of art - all materials provided. $45 per person.
