Water service restored in Gurnee:

Gurnee officials say water service has been restored to a neighborhood after a water main break this week.

On Monday night, the break was discovered on the west side of the Southridge subdivision and needed immediate attention, said Assistant to the Village Administrator Erik Jensen.

A standard repair was completed, which required temporary suspension of service to fewer than 50 homes and a precautionary boil order to those properties after restoration of service, as required by the state, Jensen said. All affected homes had water Wednesday after the boil order was lifted, he said.

Jensen said the water main shutdown was urgent because a Southridge basement was flooding Monday, so residents were not notified before the disconnection. He said the village used its website and other means to communicate with homeowners about the water shut-off and boil order.
