Work to begin next week on Hough-Main project in Barrington

Construction will begin Monday on a long-awaited retail development at Hough and Main streets in downtown Barrington, the village announced Wednesday.

Workers will begin fencing off the site, which had been used for public parking, Monday morning in preparation for the building, according to the village. The site was purchased by the village about a decade ago in hopes of fostering new development downtown.

The project involves the construction of two new one-story retail buildings and 132 public parking spaces. The buildings will total 25,000 square feet of restaurant and shopping space between them.

The names of the businesses that are set to move into the new buildings have not been revealed. A private developer, ACH ERA HM LLC, is responsible for operating the site and recruiting businesses to locate there.

The developer expects the project to be completed in late spring of 2015.
