Boomers fall to Grizzlies 2-1

The visiting Schaumburg Boomers couldn't put together a rally in Saturday night's 2-1 loss to the Gateway Grizzlies.

The Boomers left 11 on base, mounting a threat in every inning but the first.

Gateway opened a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second against Seth Webster. Webster worked 6⅓ innings and allowed just 2 runs but suffered the loss.

Schaumburg evened the game with 3 consecutive hits in the fifth.

Justin Vasquez had an RBI single to drive home Alexi Colon. Gateway immediately retook the lead in the bottom half and held off the Boomers and the weather. Schaumburg left the tying run at second in the ninth. Mark Nelson had 3 hits in the defeat.

The Kane County Cougars were rained out at Wisconsin, where they will play a doubleheader today.

Red Stars 3, Flash 3:

The Chicago Red Stars fought back from a 3-1 deficit to earn a tie against WNY Flash, although it doesn't give them the guaranteed playoff spot they would have preferred with a win.

Racers 8, Bandits 1:

The Akron offense came alive as the Racers defeated the host Chicago Bandits after scoring just 1 run in the previous two games.
