Cardboard boat racing set for Wauconda

A cardboard boat race benefiting the Bangs Lake Advisory Committee will be held in Wauconda Saturday, Aug. 30.

Lindy's Landing, 115 Park St., is running the event, which begins at noon on Bangs Lake.

Boats will race in three divisions:

• Children, for captains and crews who are 11 or younger.

• Adults, for captains and crews who are 12 or older.

• Businesses, for which all participants must be at least 16 years old.

You'll need to pay a $30 fee to enter a boat by Aug. 23, or $40 after that.

All boats must be built off -site; no quick-build kits will be available at the site.

Free cardboard can be picked up at a tent on Park Street in Wauconda.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. and inspections start at 11 a.m.

Some rules:

• Crews should consist of four or fewer people.

• All boats should be propelled by oars or paddles; no engines.

• No glues, tars or resins can be used.

• All racers must wear life jackets.

• The boats cannot be enclosed above the crews' shoulders for safety reasons.
