Illinois man injured watching demolition derby

MILLEDGEVILLE - Authorities in northwestern Illinois say a man was injured while watching the Carroll County Fair demolition derby.

The (Sterling) Daily Gazette reports that 32-year-old Christopher M. Heisler of Milledgeville was watching the event Saturday night when he was hurt. A piece of metal from one of the vehicles flew into the stands and struck Heisler in the chest.

Officials say a car motor may have blown apart, sending the metal toward the crowd.

Milledgeville Police Chief Jim Haag said Milledgeville Fire Protection District workers responded in the stands. They were aided by Mount Carroll paramedics.

Heisler was listed in fair condition Sunday night at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
