'2nd Friday' offers jazz, improvised tap

Brazilian jazz guitar, Vivaldi and improvised tap dancing is among the free or discounted entertainment being offered to get more people to visit what's been a less-traveled stretch of Chicago's Michigan Avenue.

The Chicago Cultural Mile Association has endeavored to promote the section of Michigan Avenue from the Chicago River south to Roosevelt Road. The better known part of the iconic avenue runs north.

The initiative is focused on the second Friday of every month when inducements are offered to draw people south of the river.

This Friday, Paulinho Garcia will perform Brazilian jazz guitar at the Cliff Dwellers Club. And at the Fine Arts Building, there will be improvised tap dancing and a chamber orchestra performance of Corelli, Handel and Vivaldi.

The second-Friday program began in May.
