Fire leaves car a total loss

A car fire in a parking lot near Grayslake caught the attention of a Wildwood apartment building's residents when someone pulled the lobby fire alarm, leading to the building's evacuation.

The vehicle fire, reported to authorities about 8 p.m. Thursday, didn't extend to the three-story Savanna Ridge apartments building at 18400 Belvidere Road.

"Somebody pulled the fire alarm when they saw the actual fire, so everybody came outside," said Battalion Chief Jon Cokefair of the Grayslake Fire Protection District.

The vehicle, a 2001 Ford Escape, was left a total loss, Cokefair said.

No injuries were reported.
