Wisconsin man shoots self after fleeing police

KENOSHA, Wis. - A southeastern Wisconsin man is recovering after fleeing from Kenosha police and shooting himself.

The Kenosha Police Department says an 18-year-old shot himself Tuesday after officers responded to a disorderly conduct complaint. Police say he was taken to an area hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

They say the man fled on foot and pulled a handgun from his waistband when police arrived early Tuesday. He pointed the gun at an officer, who took cover.

Police found the man in the basement of a vacant home. They tried to talk him out of the basement and heard a single gunshot. They found him on the basement stairs with a gunshot wound under his chin.

It's unclear if he has been charged.
