Coroner: Indiana motorcyclist in crash identified

Associated Press

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Fort Wayne area authorities have identified a speeding motorcyclist who died in a fiery crash with a pickup truck while doing a wheelie.

The Allen County Coroner's Office said Wednesday that Christopher Burcham of Fort Wayne died Tuesday from blunt force trauma. The 21-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the truck was turning left into Burcham's path when the motorcycle struck the truck's fuel tank and ignited it. The motorcycle broke into several pieces upon impact and the truck was destroyed. Burcham wasn't wearing a helmet.

Police say two men riding in the truck escaped injury. Authorities are investigating the incident.

A wheelie is a stunt in which the front wheel is lifted into the air and the motorcycle travels on just its rear wheel.
