Hoffman Estates recycling event Aug. 9

Hoffman Estates and the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County will host a free recycling collection event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Susan H. Kenley-Rupnow Public Works Center, 2305 Pembroke Ave.

The event is for residents of SWANCC-member communities only, and proof of residency is required. Simply drive to the Public Works Center, and workers will unload the recyclables from your car.

All paper is shredded on site by Accurate Document Destruction and all electronics will be recycled by Com2 Recycling Solutions. Documents that can be shredded include medical records, bank statements and retired tax forms. Staples and paper clips are acceptable, but binders should be removed. Residents will be limited to six grocery-size paper bags or file-size boxes of documents.

Eligible electronics include computers and computer equipment/components; printers and scanners; cellphones; fax machines; MP3 players; television, VHS and DVD players; DVRs, cable and satellite receivers, and converter boxes; and video game consoles. Materials from businesses, institutions or schools will not be accepted.

In addition to document destruction and electronics recycling, the village also will accept expired drugs/sharps; fluorescent and compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) light bulbs; batteries (not automotive); printer cartridges; and latex paint (small charge).
