Man charged in Elgin burglary, attempt on same street
An Elgin man has been charged in connection with a home burglary and an attempted one on the same street, authorities said.
Gwendall Stewart, 51, of the 1300 block of Abbott Drive, Elgin, has been charged with one count each of residential burglary and attempted residential burglary, both felonies, according to a news release from the Elgin Police Department.
A homeowner on the 1300 block of Royal Boulevard called the police after hearing a disturbance from inside his residence around 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, the release said. The homeowner confronted the burglar and the two fought, then the suspect ran away.
A witness led police to Stewart, police said, and he was arrested when a television from the home on the 1300 block of Royal Boulevard was found at his house.
Stewart also is accused of an attempted residential burglary July 15 on the 1300 block of Royal Boulevard, police said.
Stewart is scheduled to appear in Kane County bond court on Friday morning.
