Wheeling restaurant holding fundraiser for GiGi's Playhouse

Spears Bourbon-Burgers-Beer in Wheeling will host a fundraiser for GiGi's Playhouse as part of its grand opening Wednesday, July 30.

The restaurant at 723 N. Milwaukee Ave. will provide a free buffet from 4-10 p.m. with a cash bar. Donations will be accepted, and Spears also will hold a raffle and a silent auction of sports memorabilia from Auction Merchandise Source. The auction will include items from Jared Allen of the Chicago Bears; Andrew Shaw of the Chicago Blackhawks; and Jose Abreu of the Chicago White Sox.

GiGi's Playhouse provides educational and therapeutic programs at no charge to families for individuals with Down syndrome.

The restaurant will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. A jazz band will play at 5:30 p.m., and Keith Semple performs at 10 p.m.

Spears also plans a Big Burger Challenge, with participants attempting to finish a 5-pound hamburger named "Contestant" that will be on a future menu.
