Track work causes delays from St. Louis to Chicago
Train passengers will face delays on Amtrak's busy St. Louis to Chicago route as it undergoes upgrades this summer and fall.
The State Journal-Register reports that $1.5 billion worth of updates are expected to cause train delays of up to an hour. Track and signal work will allow trains to travel at up to 110 mph between St. Louis and Joliet by the end of 2015. The route's current limit is 79 mph.
The Lincoln Service corridor is one of Amtrak's most-traveled passages. More than 656,000 people took the five daily trains during the last budget year.
