Des Plaines man gets probation in New Year's Eve attack

A Des Plaines man has pleaded guilty to battery related to a domestic dispute with his father on New Year's Eve.

John H. Reardon, 20, pleaded guilty Wednesday to an amended charge of misdemeanor battery and was sentenced to one year of probation, court records show. He was also ordered to pay $549 in fines.

Authorities say police received a call about a domestic dispute at the Reardon home about 9:45 p.m. Dec. 31. The caller, who identified himself as John Reardon, told the dispatcher he'd been fighting with his father and had stabbed him in the chest.

The father told officers he and his son had been drinking together and that his son had become agitated.
