Roof fire extinguished at North Barrington home

Lake Zurich firefighters Tuesday afternoon safely extinguished a blaze on the garage roof of a house on Hidden Oaks Lane West in North Barrington, officials said.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 2:25 p.m. and had it under control a little more than 10 minutes after arriving at the scene, Lake Zurich Fire Capt. Jeff Radtke said.

The residents were home at the time and engaged in a controlled burn that somehow ignited the outside surface of the garage roof, Radtke added. No one was injured, and the cause remained under investigation late Tuesday.

The house is considered to be still habitable, but a monetary estimate of the damage was not immediately available.

Assistance was provided by firefighters from the Barrington Countryside, Long Grove, Countryside, Palatine, Lincolnshire, Wheeling and Wauconda fire departments.
