Waukegan man pleads not guilty in deaths of wife, disabled daughter

A 53-year-old Waukegan man pleaded not guilty Thursday to killing his wife and daughter in his Waukegan home, authorities said.

Anthony Marcus is facing up to life in prison if found guilty on all 18 counts for killing Sun Marcus, 50, and his disabled daughter, Samantha, 17, said Cynthia Vargas, a spokeswoman for the Lake County States Attorney's Office.

Marcus remains held in Lake County jail in lieu of $5 million bond.

Waukegan police went to the townhouse on the 4100 block of Continental about 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, after a male caller told a Waukegan Police dispatcher he had killed his family and slit his own wrists, authorities said.

Police discovered a note under the front door addressed to a "Michelle," who was later revealed to be Marcus' oldest daughter. The note read, "I'm sorry. Your dad is a failure at everying (sic)," officials said.

The bodies were found strangled in the basement of the home, authorities said. The family dog also was found dead, police said.

Marcus was treated and released at Vista East Hospital, police said. He was transferred to Lake County jail after his hospital release.

He is due back in court July 22 for a case management conference in front of Lake County Judge George Bridges, Vargas said.
