Mother of 5 shot dead on Chicago expressway

A 24-year-old mother of five was shot to death while driving on the Dan Ryan Expressway on Chicago's South Side, less than a year after her 17-year-old brother was gunned down while sitting in a car on a nearby roadway.

Jasmine Curry of Chicago was shot in the head as she was driving at about 4 a.m. Wednesday by someone in another vehicle. Two passengers in her minivan were not injured.

The Illinois State Police was interviewing witnesses and gathering surveillance video from area security cameras and said that they had a description of the other vehicle. They have said they had not determined the motive for the shooting but hoped to learn more when they locate a male passenger in Curry's vehicle who fled on foot after the shooting.

Curry's father, Pierre Curry, told reporters near where the shooting occurred that his daughter was pregnant and was due to start a new job in a mall on Wednesday. Curry also said that his son, Pierce, also was fatally shot while sitting in a vehicle last August.

"Now I got to bury another child, another Curry?" he said. "I buried one last year and now I got to bury another one."
