Men get 100 years in prison for girl's murder

Two Chicago men convicted of first-degree murder in the June 2009 death of a 9-year-old girl have been sentenced to 100 years in prison.

Ronald Henderson and Kevin Stanley were convicted in March for the shooting death of Chastity Turner, who was bathing her dogs outside her home when she was shot in the back. The gunmen were targeting her drug-dealing father and his friends. Andre Turner and two others were wounded in the shooting.

The two men were convicted despite defense attorney efforts to discredit witnesses, including the father.

In handing down the sentence Wednesday, Cook County Judge William Lacy said the 34-year-old Henderson and the 31-year-old Stanley acted with total disregard for a child when they opened fire.

A third man, 22-year-old Davionne Whitefield, is awaiting trial.
