Renovations continue at Rosemont convention center

A renovation project at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont could cost as much as $5.6 million, officials said Wednesday.

But it's possible that number could be negotiated down, said Mayor Brad Stephens.

The village board on Wednesday authorized a construction management contract with D-R Rosemont LLC that includes upgrading 100,000 square feet of ballrooms, as well as bathrooms in the facility.

Work on upgrading pedways between garages and the convention center has already begun, authorized by the board in May with a $734,480 contract.

Aramark Sports and Entertainment Services, the facility's concessions vendor, is providing $2.5 million to fund the ballroom renovations and improve concession stands. Aramark will provide another $500,000 five years from now for additional renovations - a number that will be matched by the village.

Ballroom and bathroom upgrades are expected to be complete by January 2015.
