Boomers sweep past Cornbelters

The host Schaumburg Boomers captured their fourth straight victory, a 9-3 triumph over the Normal Cornbelters on Sunday for a sweep of their three-game Frontier League series.

The Boomers (25-19), who are 18-5 at home this sesaon, batted around in the second inning and again in the third to grab a 7-0 lead. Alexi Colon opened the scoring with a two-out, 2-run triple. Justin Vasquez (2 hits) made it 3-0 with an RBI single and Mark Nelson followed with a run-scoring double in the second. Ryan McChesney delivered a two-out RBI double and Vasquez had a 2-run single in the third. Brian McConkey (2 hits) homered in the sixth.

Starter and winner Danny Jimenez worked 6 innings, allowing 1 run. Kris Singh, Clark Labitan, and Ross Spurgeon appeared in relief.

The Boomers begin a three-game road series with the River City Rascals on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. when they send right-hander Seth Webster (3-2, 2.57 ERA) against righty Ben Bracewell (1-0, 4.36).
