Boomers win in 12 innings

The Schaumburg Boomers walked off with 12-inning win over the Normal CornBelters by a 2-1 final on Saturday night.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the ninth, Brian McConkey delivered an opposite field double with two outs to score Tyler Sciacca and send the game to extra innings. The Boomers registered the walk off winner and 17th home victory this year after loading the bases in the 12th. Ty Nelson strutted home to score the game winner on a passed ball. Heith Hatfield earned the win after working two scoreless innings of relief. Hunter Ackerman struck out seven and allowed just one run in 5.2 innings of work. Nelson and McConkey finished with two hits each.

Schaumburg (24-19) concludes the homestand Sunday on a Family Day with a 1 p.m. contest. LHP Danny Jimenez (2-3, 4.57) starts for the Boomers opposite RHP Bobby Shore (3-1, 4.26) in the series finale.
