Woman crashes SUV into Buffalo Grove store

A 56-year-old woman drove her SUV through an entrance of the Garden Fresh Market in Buffalo Grove before coming to rest inside the grocery store, police said Saturday.

The driver told police she was backing out of a parking space, "got confused," and stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake, Sgt. Scott Eisenmenger said.

The white 2004 Lexus crashed through a revolving glass door on the north end of the store about 3 p.m. Friday, Eisenmenger said.

No one was injured during the Fourth of July shopping rush inside the store at Dundee and Buffalo Grove roads, Eisenmenger said.

"The door was completely destroyed," said Eisenmenger, adding that the impact caused no structural damage to the building.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, police said.

Buffalo Grove's traffic unit is investigating the crash. No citations had been issued as of Saturday night, police said.
