'First Wives Club' musical announces Chicago engagement

A musical version of "The First Wives Club," featuring a score by the Motown songwriting team Holland-Dozier-Holland, is aiming for Broadway with a planned spring 2015 engagement at Chicago's Oriental Theatre.

The musical, which had a bumpy launch at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego in 2009, is based on the late Olivia Goldsmith's 1992 novel and the hit 1996 movie. "The First Wives Club" will feature Simon Phillips ("Priscilla, Queen of the Desert: The Musical") as its new director, while TV's Linda Bloodworth Thomason ("Designing Women") is writing a new script. Further casting and creative information will be announced at a later date. For more information, visit broadwayinchicago.com.
