Schaumburg police seek help after bicyclist seriously injured in hit-and-run

Schaumburg police are seeking the public's help in locating a driver involved in a hit-and-run crash Saturday afternoon that left a 52-year-old man hospitalized with serious head injuries.

Authorities said the crash occurred about 2:43 p.m. when the car collided with the Schaumburg man's bicycle near the intersection of Wise Road and Cranbrook Drive. Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said the bicyclist was crossing the intersection while riding eastbound on the north side of Wise when the crash occurred.

The vehicle, described as a white, two-door sports car, fled the scene westbound on Wise Road after the crash. Police believe the car has damage to its right front fender, door or hood. A description of the driver and the car's license plate information was not obtained, according to police.

The bicyclist, who authorities are not identifying, was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village for treatment. Nebl said his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or has information about the car or its driver, is asked to call Schaumburg police at (847) 348-7055 or email investigations@ci.schaumburg.il.us.
