Waukegan to hold American Independence Parade and Festival June 29
Waukegan's American Independence Parade and Festival will be held Sunday, June 29. This year's theme is "Bringing Home the Gold."
The parade will step off at 1 p.m. at Sheridan Road and Franklin Street and follow Sheridan north to Greenwood Avenue, ending at Bowen Park. Waukegan Mayor Wayne Motley will serve as Grand Marshal.
The festival will take place from 2:30 to 5 p.m. throughout Bowen Park, and will include children's games, inflatables, a petting zoo, skate park exhibition and competition, music, food and more. New to the festival lineup is a show from Chicago's Radio Disney Jr. The Disney Road Crew will entertain children ages 3 to 7 with music, interactive games, dancing and prizes from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Food vendors will open at 11:30 a.m. Bowen Park is at 1800 N. Sheridan Road.
From 3 to 5 p.m., the Waukegan Band will perform a program of patriotic music titled "Salute to America," including "America the Beautiful," "Armed Forces Salute" and marches by John Philip Sousa. For information about the band, visit www.waukeganband.com.
