Sky's Fowles practicing, but WNBA return unknown

What has made the absence of Elena Delle Donne in recent weeks even more difficult for the Sky is that 6-foot-6 all-star center Sylvia Fowles is also sidelined.

"Big Syl" is still recovering from hip surgery. Doctors originally estimated that she'd be back on the court as early as mid-June. And while Fowles senses that she is close, she says she's still not there.

"I'm taking it week by week right now," Fowles said after the Sky's overtime win over the New York Liberty on Wednesday.

Not day by day?

"No, not day by day. Week by week," Fowles said. "It's just on how I'm feeling, but hopefully I'll be back soon. I just started practicing. I've had two practices and I've been trying to find my groove.

"I'm very anxious to get back. Everything feels good. Now, it's getting back into basketball shape."

The Sky has not had its three all-stars (Delle Donne, Fowles and Epiphanny Prince) in the lineup together this season. On top of that, fellow starter Jessica Breland (shin) has also missed a couple of games.

"It will be great to have everyone back on the same page," said Fowles, who averaged 16.3 points and 11.5 rebounds last summer and was named the 2013 WNBA defensive player of the year. "It will be exciting."
