West Nile confirmed in Kane County

Health officials say they have confirmed that a crow found in Kane County has tested positive for West Nile virus.
The Kane County Health Department said Thursday that the bird was found in Campton Township. The area is just west of St. Charles and Geneva.
A news release from Kane County said the discovery is very early. In most years the first positive test would come in late July or in August.
Kane is the sixth Illinois county to find infected birds or mosquitoes this year.
West Nile virus is transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes. Only about two of 10 people bitten will develop symptoms that can include fever and body aches. But serious illness such as encephalitis and meningitis are possible.
