Lightning strikes Glen Ellyn-area home

A reported lightning strike caused a fire on the roof of a house Thursday night in an unincorporated area near Glen Ellyn, authorities said.

The Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company responded to the fire on Stratford Court, west of Stratford Road, about 9:30 p.m., officials said.

Responding crews were able to quickly enter and extinguish the fire, according to a news release.

The residents had already evacuated and were uninjured.

Firefighters covered most of the first-floor furniture with tarps in an attempt to minimize damage. The homeowners were expected to be able to return to the home after damage to the roof was boarded up, authorities said.

The fire remained under investigation late Thursday.
