Thanks for support of Leonard dedication

Thanks to all who gathered on May 30 for the dedication of the impressive "If I Could But Fly" sculpture by artist Bob Wilfong on the west bank of the Fox River along the Bob Leonard Walkway in St. Charles.

Diligence was demonstrated by Peter Suhr and Jim Bernahl, director and former director of public works - responsible for the planning and installation of the sculpture base. Diana Brown, chairwoman of the Downtown St. Charles Partnership Public Art Committee, led the ceremony which included her heartfelt words followed by those of Mayor Ray Rogina; John Rabchuk, vice president of the River Corridor Foundation Board; and sculptor Bob Wilfong from the state of Washington. Former Mayor Don DeWitte; Larry Maholland, former president of the River Corridor Foundation; City Administrator Mark Koenen; and many of Bob's friends were also in attendance.

We express our gratitude for this community's past and present spirit of vision, civic virtue, and cooperation to preserve and enhance the beautiful city and riverfront of St. Charles.

We respect and appreciate the many volunteers and workers of the city, the River Corridor Foundation, the downtown partnership, and the park district - as well as the Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, Pottawatomie Garden Club, and other organizations dedicated to making St. Charles the "Pride of the Fox."

Bob certainly loved this community and the opportunity to contribute to it alongside many outstanding fellow citizens and friends. May this spirit of vision, civic virtue, and cooperation continue to enhance our lives and the lives of our posterity. Peter W. Leonard
