Rise up to fight water rate hike

To the residents of Island Lake, Port Barrington, and Lakemoor, I urge you to open your eyes to the 40.2 percent increase the NMWRD board has done to all homes in these towns.

They claim it is a 7 percent increase, and they have not had a rate increase since 2008. The village of Island Lake has not raised water rates since 2008. They supply the water to this firm. To the best of my knowledge no plans to do so in the near future. NMWRD received a $100,000 grant for the moving of sewer lines for Dowell Road. This increase is really 10 percent a year for the next four years.

Do any of you know of an existing utility that can increase the consumer rates 40.2 percent over a four-year period?

I urge everyone to contact their state senator and representative to stop this increase. NMWRD rates prior to this increase are the highest in the area. We pay 50 percent more than Woodstock. Why is this increase needed? No one seems to be paying any attention in these three towns. Open your eyes to this insanity.
