Solak displays the flag to honor members of the military and to honor his dad, who died on Flag Day 12 years ago. "It's (memorializing) his life with me and also he was in the army, so it is honoring those people that have passed away since World War II that have served in the military."   Kathy Chwee of N. Lyle Ave in Elgin flies her American flag proudly. "It's easy for me to be patriotic partly due to the fact I was born on July Fourth. I am very patriotic, we live in the best country in the world, and I like to show it." She also give flags to friends for their homes and gave one to her oldest daughter when she bought her first house. Chwee grew up in St. Charles, and as a kid her family always went to the Batavia fireworks. For Memorial Day, she decorated her yard with multiple small flags.
