Quinn announces $7.4 million for construction

SPRINGFIELD - Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn has designated $7.4 million Cook County construction projects.

The governor's office says the projects will be managed largely by the Illinois Department of Transportation. They include modernized traffic signals in Calumet City, deck repairs on the I-55 bridge at Lake Shore Drive in Chicago and the resurfacing of portions of Roosevelt Road in Chicago and Cicero. A $1.6 million pedestrian path will also be constructed in Palos Heights.

The projects are part of the $31 billion capital construction program that lawmakers approved in 2009. The package was largely paid for through legalizing video poker, raising taxes on candy, liquor and beauty products and privatizing the Illinois lottery.

Quinn says the projects will "address critical infrastructure needs in Cook County, improve safety and increase mobility."
