Round Lake man charged with indecent solicitation of a child

A Round Lake man has been charged with indecent solicitation of a child after trying to set up a meeting to have sex with a 9-year-old girl he was communicating with on Facebook.

The Facebook discussion between Devan A. Bald, 18, of the 2000 block of West Autumn Drive, and the girl became sexual in nature June 4 and was immediately discovered by the girl's father, authorities said.

The victim's father contacted the Lake County Sheriff's Office, and a detective with the cybercrimes unit posed as the girl and continued communicating online with Bald, authorities said.

On June 6, Bald made arrangements to meet the girl, but was instead met by sheriff's police, authorities said.

During an interview after his arrest, Bald told detectives his intentions were to meet the girl to engage in sexual activities, authorities said.

He was charged with four counts of indecent solicitation of a child, and was placed in Lake County jail on $400,000 bail. His next court date is June 11.
