Boomers rally for 7-3 victory

The host Schaumburg Boomers ended a nine-game Southern Illinois Miners winning streak with a 7-3 victory Saturday night.

Southern Illinois led 3-1 before the Boomers erupted for 4 runs in the fifth. Jordan Dean had an RBI single to get the Boomers within 3-2. Ty Nelson hit a 2-run single to put the Boomers ahead for good at 4-3. Brian McConkey also added an RBI single in the inning.

Mark Nelson and Ty Nelson singled home runs in the sixth to account for the final total. Ty Nelson notched 3 hits and 3 RBI. Cal Bowling earned the win, working 5 innings. Five relievers combined to shut the door.

The series concludes Sunday as right-hander Anthony Smith (1-1, 4.05) starts for the Boomers at 1 p.m. against Miguel Ramirez (2-1, 4.30) for Southern Illinois.
