Boomers x

The Southern Illinois Miners picked up their ninth straight victory, a 4-3 decision over the Schaumburg Boomers Friday night at Boomers Stadium.

The Miners (12-7) built a 4-0 lead against starter Rey Rodriguez as the Boomers (9-10) rallied late but never led in the game.

The Miners scored a run in the first and added two in the fifth and one in the sixth. Rodriguez (1-1) worked six innings and allowed three earned runs. Schaumburg scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth with run-scoring hits by Jordan Dean and Tyler Sciacca and a sacrifice fly by Ryan McChesney, but it wasn't enough.

The Boomers put the tying run on base in the final three innings but could not tie the game.

The series continues on Saturday night with Field of Screams at Boomers Stadium as the Boomers transform into the Schaumburg Zombies for one night. The 6 p.m. contest also features postgame fireworks.
