Hoffman Estates Chamber fishing derby Saturday

The Hoffman Estates Chamber of Commerce will host its 19th annual Community Fishing Derby from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at South Ridge Lake, 1450 Freeman Road in Hoffman Estates.

On-site registration costs $5 and children as young as 2 years old are eligible to participate.

No fishing license is required for this one-day event. The derby requires barbless hooks, a catch and release policy, and that each fisher brings his or her own pole.

Bait will be sold at the event. No alcohol is permitted, and all coolers will be checked.

Among the prizes awarded will be a $100 Sears gift card for the longest fish caught by an adult, a bike donated by Alden Poplar Creek for the longest fish caught by a child between 7 and 16 years old, and a $100 BMO Harris Bank cash card and stuffed Hubert doll donated by BMO Harris Bank for the longest fish caught by a child between 2 and 6 years old.

Tagged fish are worth $10 to $100 and one tagged fish is worth a $1,000 Cabela's gift card.

Because of the catch and release policy, no dead fish will be accepted for the derby awards.
