Small fire at Six Flags Great America:

Employees at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee extinguished a small fire at the new Goliath roller coaster Friday afternoon. Great America communications manager Katy Enrique said the flames were on a roof over a section for the ride's cars. She said the Gurnee Fire Department arrived to investigate after the park employees quickly contained and extinguished the flames. Enrique said the roof sustained minimal damage and there were no injuries. The fire will not affect the coaster's opening, which hasn't yet been determined, or future operation of the ride. Gurnee firefighters who were summoned at 2:12 p.m. cleared the burned area, then applied water and foam to the structure, officials said. A cause had yet to be determined.
