Should all be living within their means?
Please keep this statement in mind the next time you consider voting for or supporting a tax hike. On May 26, after giving up on extending the 5 percent individual income tax rate beyond 2014, Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan stated, "We're going to call upon the agencies and those that receive appropriations from the legislature to live within their means."
Shouldn't all levels of Illinois' government be living within their means all the time? It is precisely the speaker's flawed thought process, as evidenced by this statement, which has resulted in Illinois' current dire economic situation.
