Palatine hosting disc golf clinic, tourney June 14-15

The Palatine Park District will host a pair of disc golf events this month at its 18-hole disc golf course at the Margreth Riemer Reservoir, located east of Quentin Road between Palatine Road and Wood Street.

Kenny Glassman, the 2011 World Amateur Champion, will lead a free clinic for those new to disc golf or those who would like some formal instruction. The clinic will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14 and will include instruction on basic techniques, improvement of current technique, strategies, disc golf etiquette, and tournament rules. Preregistration for the clinic is not required but those who do register in advance will receive a free Palatine Park District mini-disk.

On Sunday, June 15, the district hosts the Margreth Riemer Open Disc Golf Tournament presented by Walgreens of Palatine. Disc golfers of all skill levels are invited to participate in this Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) sanctioned tournament.

The event will begin with check-in at 7:30 a.m. followed by Round 1 at 9:30 a.m., lunch, Round 2 at 1 p.m., and prizes, contests and games from 3 to 4 p.m.

Fees range from $10 to $40 depending on division and PDGA membership status. For more information or to register, visit www.palatineparks.org.
