I-55 Rt. 83 ramp reopens after semi rollover

The Route 83 northbound ramp from northbound I-55 has reopened after crews cleaned debris from an accident involving a semi carrying a concrete beam.

According to police reports, a 38-year-old male driver from Waterman, Illinois, was traveling on the ramp from Interstate 55 northbound to northbound Route 83 at 9:35 a.m. when the concrete beam on the trailer shifted, causing the trailer to roll on its side across the ramp.

The ramp was closed most of Saturday until about 6:30 p.m., police said in a news release, as crews cut the beam into smaller pieces to remove it from the road. It previously was slated to reopen at 3 p.m.
