Barrington makes Conant sectional final

After Friday's boys volleyball sectional semifinal matches, Barrington is the last Mid-Suburban League team standing in the postseason.

The MSL champs topped Buffalo Grove 25-23, 25-15 at Conant to earn a date against Lake Park in Tuesday's 7 p.m. sectional championship at Conant.

Lake Park advanced by beating Addison Trail 18-25, 25-15, 25-13.

A victory in the sectional final would put Barrington into the state Elite Eight.

The Broncos last made the state finals in 2012, finishing third under coach Rob Ridenour. Lake Park also appeared in the Elite Eight that year under coach Tim Murphy but did lost its quarterfinal match.

Barrington's best state finish so far was a runner-up placement in 2005.

• In sectional play at New Trier, Loyola ended the season for MSL East champ Hersey in three tight sets, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22.

Matt Torvik had a huge match with 16 kills and 17 assists for Hersey (31-7).

Bart Migus (8 kills), Mike Fuerst (7 kills, 4 blocks), Angelo Coniglio (6 kills), Fotis Christacos (7-for-8 serving, 1 ace), Jordan Saeed (5 blocks, 2 kills) and Peter Wesolowski (team-high 20 assists) all figured prominently for the Huskies.

Loyola will meet the host Trevians in Tuesday's championship after New Trier handled Niles West 25-19, 25-19.
