Rolling Meadows chamber hands out awards

The Rolling Meadows Chamber of Commerce handed out six awards Thursday night its 2014 Circle of Success Recognition Dinner.

"We are proud to call Rolling Meadows home," said Rebecca Darr, CEO of WINGS, which fights domestic abuse.

After being named Community Leader of the Year, she recalled the long fight waged a dozen years ago to get the first shelter opened in the town and the community leaders who helped WINGS win that battle.

"It took a city, it took a community to make that happen," she said of the 2,000 women the organization has helped since then.

Other award winners were:

• Barbara C. Higgens, CEO of Plumbing Manufacturers International, Business Leader of the Year.

• Christopher E. Burke Engineering, Business of the Year.

• Amy Charlesworth, executive director of the Rolling Meadows Park District, Chamber Volunteer of the Year.

• Rolling Meadows Crime Stoppers, Community Outreach Award.

• Rolling Meadows Park District, Community Enhancement Award.
