Huntley wins; Elgin, St. Edward fall

Huntley 9, Rockford East 0: Freshman Kateri Conklin threw a 1-hitter with 12 strikeouts and no walks as Huntley (20-16) advanced to Saturday's regional championship game against DeKalb. Megan Baczewski was 4-for-4 with a double for the Red Raiders, while Megan Larson (2-for-4, 2 HRs, 4 RBI), Taylor Stone (3-for-5) and Shannon Walsh (3-for-5, 2B) also had big days at the plate.

Elk Grove 13, Elgin 2: The Maroons (14-19) may have seen their season come to an end at the Class 4A St. Charles East regional but senior catcher Kelly Bremer had a double and an RBI to finish the season with a .518 batting average, setting a new Elgin High record for batting average in a season. She broke the 35-year old record of Angie Bennett, who in 1979 hit .507. Jennah Perryman added her sixth home run of the season in the loss for Elgin, while Anna Eckholm was 2-for-3 with a double. Jessica Rago took the loss in the circle.

Nazareth 5, St. Edward 0: The Green Wave (18-13) managed only a single by Devyn Ernst in losing this Class 3A Nazareth regional semifinal. Lindsay Zdroik (13-11) took the loss in the circle.
