Leon, Red Stars soar to road win ove Sky Blue FC

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Chicago Red Stars notched a pair of first-half goals en route to a 2-0 victory over Sky Blue FC in National Women's Soccer League action Wednesday night.

Midfielder Adriana Leon scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 27th minute, then she assisted on captain Lori Chalupny's goal in the 35th minute as the second-place Red Stars improved to 6-2-1 with 19 points after their fourth straight road victory.

"It's not easy to get points on the road in this league," said Red Stars coach Rory Dames. "The players have done well and we'll continue to train hard, clean up some details and work on getting better."

Red Stars goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc recorded her third shutout of the season.

"We have yet to put together a complete 90-minute performance," said Chalupny. "But there were moments of really good soccer today including our backs getting another shutout.

"Our backline has really played together and KK (LeBlanc) has done really well for us. And I thought our movement up top in the first 45 (minutes) was the best it has been all season."

The Red Stars return home for a match Wednesday against the Washington Spirit.
