Glenn Miller Orchestra to perform at The Holmstad

Making its only public appearance in Illinois this summer, the world renowned Glenn Miller Orchestra will take the stage at The Holmstad, a faith-based, nonprofit, continuing care retirement community operated by Covenant Retirement Communities, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 11.

Responding to popular demand to carry on the legacy of Glenn Miller and his civilian and Army Air Force bands, the Miller Estate authorized the formation of the present Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1956. Since then, the band has been on the road worldwide, playing nearly 300 dates per year. The orchestra has performed in all 50 states, throughout Europe, Australia, Japan, Iceland, New Zealand, Guam, the Philippines, South and Central America.

The ensemble consists of the music director, five saxophone players, four trumpeters, four trombonists, three rhythm musicians - piano, bass and drums - and a male and female vocalist.

The orchestra faithfully creates the distinctive sound developed by Glenn Miller and continues to play many of the original Miller arrangements from both the civilian and military band libraries. It also plays modern selections arranged and performed in the Miller style and sound. As it was in the 1940s, "Moonlight Serenade" is still the signature tune of the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Space is limited. To register, please visit www.TheHolmstad.org or call (877) 226-7310. The Holmstad is at 700 W. Fabyan Parkway, Batavia.
