Tourniquet saves life of northern Indiana farmer

CLAYPOOL, Ind. - The son of a northern Indiana man is being credited for a quick lifesaving move after a farm accident severed the father's left arm.

Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department says the unidentified son of 59-year-old Bill Linn of rural Claypool ran to the man's aid and applied a tourniquet to the arm after the accident Monday severed the limb just above the elbow.

Linn was listed in critical condition Tuesday at Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital. Claypool is about 40 miles west of Fort Wayne.

Officers say Linn had started a tractor while it was in gear, causing the vehicle and an attached mowing deck to lunge forward and strike him.
