On to the semis for high-scoring Stevenson

Stevenson's high-scoring water polo duo of Allison Travetto and Melissa Gartenberg were at it again Friday.

Travetto scored 5 goals, and Gartenberg added four, as the Patriots pounded New Trier 13-2 in a state quarterfinal at Stevenson on Friday.

Stevenson (30-4) advanced to today's 11:30 a.m. semifinal against St. Ignatius, which was a 15-4 winner over Lincoln-Way East. The winner plays either Fenwick or Naperville North for the state championship at 8 p.m. today.

For the season, Travetto has 143 goals, while Gartenberg has 109.

Annika Hotchkiss, Ashley Oliver, Alexa Kotlyar and Sara Ploch also scored for the Patriots, who led only 2-1 after one quarter but went into halftime up 8-1.

Stevenson goalie Becky Callen was credited with 7 saves.
